Sinks

A fundamental element of any kitchen design is the choice of sink. This can be a fashion led or practical based upon usage but regardless of choice care should be taken to ensure that it is of quality construction as it is the most frequently used item in any kitchen. When considering sink choices there are three main sink types, inset, undermount and butler. These sinks are available in a wide variety of materials and come in many differing sizes but their appropriateness for use may be governed by the worktop type.
-
Inset - these sinks are the most common type and sit on top of the worktop, usually accompanied by an attached drainer. They are fitted after the worktop is in place and can be easily replaced if damaged. They come in the widest variety of styles and materials.
-
Undermount - these sinks are designed to be fitted with granite or wooden worktops. They are attached to the underneath of the worktop thus giving a smooth finish to the worktop. As a result of their installation they are harder to replace if damaged.
-
Butler - these sinks are the traditional white ceramic sinks which sit on a low base unit. They come in a variety of styles but all have the common feature of being large and are most suited to traditional kitchens or utility rooms.
